Thoughts on Dating an Unbeliever

Bride in white dress running away from her own wedding. This artlcle by Kathy Keller, wife of pastor Tim Keller of Redeemer Church in New York, talks about good reasons why as a Christian you shouldn’t marry a believer. She has been involved in counseling many women in unhappy marriages who got involved with a non-Christian guy, got married and now experience pain and loneliness. If only she could have these women sit down with someone who was younger and thinking about marrying a non-Christian, then they would have a better picture of what they would be facing in an unequally yoked marriage. Either you would have to push your faith to the outer margins of your life to keep peace in your marriage, or you would have to marginalize your spouse to participate in Christian activities. Either scenario will create constant tension and stress in your life.

There are two main summer projects we are recommending for this summer:

Lighthouse
This is a newer project that is pioneering on a new campus.  Ask one of the Cru staff about more details.

Australia
This too will involve starting up ministries college campuses. Since school is in session in the summer in Australia, this is a perfect time to meet students and share Christ.

Choosing a Summer Project

San Diego Express 2011

If you have had a chance to visit GoSummerProject, than you will see that there are over 200 summer projects. How do you know which is the best one for you?

At Cal Poly Pomona Cru, we have several projects that we are partnered with. If you have never been on a project before, or if you have gone overseas on a short term mission with your church, we recommend one of the following Stateside Projects:

Ocean City
Ocean City, New Jersey was the first summer project ever when a local pastor wanted to find a way to reach all the college students who to came to the Jersey Shore every summer. He partnered with a local Cru movement, and now it has grown to one of the largest summer projects offered.

Santa Monica
Santa Monica is one of the newer summer projects. It is unique in that you have opportunities to minister on local college campuses and take a summer course at Santa Monica City College. It is similar in structure to the Ocean City project in many ways as well. Our own Matt Pfaff will be on staff on this project this summer. Send him a message if you have more questions.

San Diego Express
Express is designed for the student who doesn’t have 8 weeks to spare in the summer, but still wants to get training in leadership and ministry skills. It is only 2 weeks long and is close by in San Diego. Jim Kercheval will be one of the project directors, and he also hopes that many Cal Poly Pomona students will join him there this summer!
